Design Dilemma
Homeowners Josh and Melissa both lead hectic lifestyles. She juggles being a newlywed and a full-time student. The couple truly values their relaxation time. However, they have just moved into a new home and haven’t had any time to decorate. They wanted to start the process of decorating their new home with their designated leisure spots: the family room and the master bedroom. With little time on her hands Melissa visited our showroom to see if she could find the look she envisioned for the rooms.

Here's What We Did
Melissa met our designer Christina in the store who explained how Designs Of The Interior was more than a furniture store. Melissa discovered that Designs Of The Interior was just what she needed for her busy lifestyle.

Chrstina found an uninviting family room with white walls and oversized furnishings that left the space overcrowded and lacking that edgy style the new homeowners were thriving to achieve. Josh wanted a room where the guys could watch sports on his plasma television and Melissa wanted a peaceful space where she could hang out with her family and friends. The drab walls needed some warmth, so we painted them a brown-beige and used darker shades of the same color over the fireplace niches to create depth. For the fabrics on the furniture, we selected a blend of luxurious colors: dark chocolate browns, rich burnt reds, delectable creams and beiges and a beautiful houndstooth fabric. This big two story family room had a lot of light during the day, but not enough at night. We brought in one floor lamp that rests between the chocolate brown leather chair and a comfy club chair. A beautiful table lamp rests on the sofa table and creates light for the people seated on the tone-on-tone sectional. The windows overlook the couple's swimming pool, and we did not want to block the view. So the window treatments were simple with two non-functional panels held up with a contemporary, stainless steel rod. Two decorative finials, colorful accents and accessories were used to finish off the room. We mounted the plasma TV above the new entertainment console. Josh and Melissa longed for a grown-up space that was cool and comfortable with plenty of room for entertaining guests. By combining a flourish of feminine with a modest amount of masculine, we were able to give them the space they had always imagined.

For the master bedroom, Josh and Melissa were looking for a stylish bedroom retreat that illustrated elegance and sophistication. The bedroom's true potential was blocked due to the blank walls, zero supply of lighting, and windows that lacked stylish draperies. The couple had already purchased a beautiful bedroom set and a gorgeous comforter. Our job was to bring in rich fabrics that complement the comforter they both love, and create a simple, yet timeless bedroom for them to enjoy.

Soothing deep brown colors were selected to warm up the space and tie the bedroom to the hallway and master bath which both contain various shades of brown. For the fabrics, we used soothing greens and blues, chocolate browns, and graceful golds. We chose matching lamps for each nightstand that added height and symmetry to the room. Custom made, functional draperies were hung on the double window and French doors in the space. We added fleur-de-lis finials to each end of the wooden transverse rods so the couple could remember where they met in Louisiana. The end result was that elegant and sophisticated bedroom retreat the couple sought.

The before and after pictures are great examples of how we can convert your house into a sanctuary from your hectic daily life. Let Designs Of The Interior in Jacksonville help you find the right feel for your space.
