Design Dilemma - January 2008
This Design Dilemma continues the challenge to convert blah neutrals into a home with a style that reflects the lifestyle and personality of the homemaker.

Design Dilemma
As a follow-up from last month's design dilemma, our designer Kristie worked with her client Jennifer to select paint colors to transform the appearance of her new home.

It was now time to add furniture and accessories to complete the room that Jennifer envisioned. The room had a small sectional, a large rug, and a red leather chair used by her daughter to watch TV.

Jennifer wanted to keep the large rug and red leather chair. The sectional only accommodated seating for five, and Jennifer's goal was to increase the seating to six or eight people. With this information Kristie worked on a new layout for the room.

Here's What We Did
By removing the sectional and adding two sofas, the seating was increased to six, and by adding an ottoman for a coffee table, Jennifer had the option for more seating and the great advantage of having a coffee table in the room that did not exist before.

Working off the paint colors and the colors in the rug, a color pallet was selected for the new furniture. A golden fabric was selected for the two sofas with contrasting colors in the pillows to pull out the eggplants, chocolate, reds, and greens in the rug. A transitional style was selected for the sofas to make Jennifer's guests feel comfortable, and relaxed, without looking to casual.

To finish the room two round end tables were selected to add more of a shape to the room and a round tufted leather ottoman to anchor the rest of the room. Pendant lights were added to the kitchen to compliment the color pallet, and accessories were added to the bookshelves to finish the room.

The final result from wall paint, furniture and accessories was the room that Jennifer had envisioned.
